Your bad rep is self inflicted thanks to the lame behaviour the title enforces and the fact that your at a major disadvantage without res.

No more idiotic than saying going for survivor makes you a lame player. Players earn reputations based on their actions, not their titles.

As much as it sucks, there's no law against idiots and that stupid kid was just being a moron period. The OP mentioned he was getting a run and not doing a mission/quest where he can jeopardize the whole team by either quitting or staying back. If you're getting a run you just sit back til you reach destination. There's no justification for what that dumb person did but again there's no law against being stupid or plain annoying.
try to stick to guildies/friends for missions and get heros ASAP. this is why people's trust in other people go down the drain because of idiots like that kid.

Use heroes I got my Survivor r3 title by simply using heroes and having 1 friend do a mission with me.
|
After entering Anvil Rock and as the runner headed down the left path away from the Minataur's, I stepped over next to the res shrine. The party being ran were all level 9 or less with 3 of them 4 or less. Doesn't take much for the mobs to wipe them. By the time I realized what was up, my health was gone before I could find that little X.
"Hero / Hench it", where do you think I was headed? I am only runner in my guild, and the only runners I know are on my friends list. It's time to purge my list, only 3 or 4 of a full list is on any more, and half of them are "Do not disturb".
Sometimes life sucks, and you have to take an occasional chance, even when you can't afford too.

As far as I'm concerned if you are going for survivor you should never PuG unless you are the group leader and you assure victory with at least 2-3 players you know or heroes. Yes there are a-holes out there who will intentionally try to screw your group up, I haven't had the misfortune to encounter them but I know people who have. There are people who just plain suck and will get you killed unintentionally. A survivor has to be dedicated to being 100% assured that their group will pull through regardless of any unknown factors. Or go power level with kilroy.

HFF = Hero Faction Farm, there is a kurzick and luxon quest for faction that you can order your flag your heroes to complete while you chill right next to the portal. 3k exp and 400 faction in about 40 seconds for kurzick, 1.5 minutes or so for luxon (i think). Both repeatable.
Nowadays its even faster to go to EoTN and do boxing, where you cant die unless you are unable to 'stand up' and get huge exp per kill since you are alone.

People generalize? Thanks for that pearl of wisdom. That doesn't mean one can't express how foolish it is.

This is an excellent example of generalizing. People<--- can't get much more general than that. Now can you?

Survivors act like they are first class players when I encoutner them in PuGs, snobs that demand pre-prot for travelling about (Yes this happened once).
The survivor title means squat to me, it just says "I had a ton of lvl 20s help me out from lvl 1 and I stayed in the back and sucked my toe"

So you don't agree that a survivor in the party is a liability? That the first thing on a survivor's mind isn't kill the monster or help save the party, as opposed to OMFG I might die let me run away and save my title before I have to start all over again?
Be serious... the first thing on a survivors mind is title... not group.

That's exactly what I didn't wanna do when I made my first ever "survivor", in quotations because I'm not doing it seriously - if I die, I don't care, but I'll avoid dying anyways. The only time I mapped out was from my own bad aggro in Tahnnakai Temple which got my whole party, made of heroes/henchies, dead. I'd have done the same on my other non-survivor characters.
I play like I've always played before, so a midliner often finding himself on the frontline to pull. I'm just more "careful" I guess on my mesmer (the "survivor") because well, I want my title, but I seriously will not stand back and watch my party destroying stuff. I'd feel like a leech and I hate leeching >_>.
As for griefers and morons, I try to avoid them... but I'm a moron-magnet or something, so I always wind up with one or more. Goes from the guy who pulls to get a whole team killed because some guy got an ecto instead of him, and the ones who abuses everyone verbally for XYZ reason.

I'm not condoning what the guy did. That was just bad. However, I noticed that you didn't tell the group that you were going for Survivor so I think you must know how many players feel about them. Knowing what you face after Yak's Bend, I'm guessing that you were going to need another run or two or three to get to wherever you needed to go after that. And PUGs from Yak's Bend on are often even worse than the group you were in.
There seems to be a mentality in many PUGs, and teams being run, that anything goes. People seem to think that they can say and do stupid things with no regard for the team leader or other party members. Maybe because no one knows each other. I wonder if players needing runs like this one are the same people who later look for groups to join for missions and quests? I think they are and so many of them are just plain brats. You can tell just by the way they talk.
My only advice for Survivors is, if you feel that you have to rely on other players, play with friends or guildies that know what your goal is. Teaming with strangers is a pretty big gamble. When you do join a team, if you see anyone saying stupid things in team chat or acting like a jerk then do yourself a favor and leave. Chances are the jerk is going to cause problems and you're going to have to bail on the team so just leave.
Of course hindsight is always perfect

h/h way is still the best way for survivor but if you really feel like you want to go with other people guildies and friends should bee first choice since there is always the risk to run in to people like that.
but if you really just want to take a pug.
then the best thing to do, is to just try and keep maxium controle over the party; most pugs dont know the bonus or how the mission goes, etc.
so just take the role as leader of the party tell them where they should go (most of the time just drawing a simple line on the compas does the trick).
my survivor is a monk so that makes it a lot easyer they depent on you (just take a hero monk with you as backup also helps ), on occasion you do run in a person that thinks he's rambo but wenn you just let him walk to his own death they tend to learn to just stick with the group.
also best is to avoid any party with a mm, you dont want to get killed by thous things in a movie or something like that.
a pug always addes a extra challance to a mission when you go for survivor personaly I like that, but then again if you dont want that extra risk just dont take pugs and aks your friends/guildies or stick with the h/h solo thing.

yeah that sucks, I too have come across some real idiots on the, too bad there is not a keyboard command to sent an electric pulse back to their computer and blow it up heh heh heh
I got legendary survivor on my ranger about a year ago by playing the game, capping skills and being very careful. I nearly lost it a few times because the stupid game client crashed on me. My monk has rank 1 and I was try to get another rank 3 but died farming exp with killroy. My finger was too tiered hitting 8 all the time not fussed. Glad I have it on my ranger and it is a silly title to get just like defender of ascalon, lucky/unlucky and drunkard/sweettooth.
